Tips for Counting Media Planting on Home Gardens

planting media

Planting media (growing media) are very important to the survival of existing plants. Growing media and soil excavation involves the provision of top soil (fertile soil). But please keep in mind when you buy plants you want as much as possible you ask Nursery (plant sales) plant that is still inside the container (eg plants in polybags), because by asking it to prevent crop stress (apparently not a human or animal who stress …) when later planted in the garden or your garden.

Tips calculate the recommended planting media are as follows:

Tree and Palm: 1 mx 1 mx 1 m (length x width x depth of soil).

Small palm tree: 75 cm x 75 cm x 75 cm (length x width x depth of soil).

Shrubs plant: The area of planting x 50 cm (soil depth).

Cover crops: The area of planting x 30 cm (soil depth).

Grass: The area of planting x 20 cm (soil depth).

Water Plant: width x 30 cm, the pool area (soil depth) or the more frugal you put in the pot.

Plant propagation: Depending on the location of planting if the area is already available top soil should not need to be given top soil.

You might also ask, how do I calculate the excavation soil as growing media? The answer is the same as the calculation above.

Case in point:

You have five and a palm tree, shrub planted area of 3 m2, 4 m2 area of cover crops, grass area and 10 m2. So to calculate like this:

  • 5 and Palm Trees: 5 x (1 x 1 x 1) m3 = 5 x 1 m3 = 5 m3
  • 3 m2 shrubs planted area: 3 m2 x 0.5 m (50 cm into the topsoil) = 1.5 m3
  • 4 m2 area of cover crops: 4 m2 x 0.3 m (30 cm depth of top soil) = 1.2 m3
  • 10 m2 lawn area: 10 m2 x 0.2 (20 cm into the top soil) = 2 m3

So the total expenditure for the purchase of top soil is:

5 + 1.5 + 1.2 + 2 = 9.7 rounded up to 10 m3 m3

So now you’ve studied the calculation of expenditure for the planting media. Easy enough right? Next I will explain how to calculate how many plants should be provided for your garden.
